The “Waiting For The Day” project

It began sometime around 2010, with the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the waters off Louisiana… 

 …and the installation of an underwater camera to document oil gushing from a damaged pipeline into the Gulf of Mexico for 5 months until the leak was declared permanently sealed.   I had a newborn in the NICU with his mother also hospitalized, and an overwhelming feeling of my world being out-of-control…

2½ years later, on a large screen at the after-school arts program where I taught, I watched the aftermath of the murder of 26 elementary students and staff in their own school.  It had me wondering if we all had become so consumed by our own lives that we had neither energy nor care to confront policies at odds with our daily well-being.  

I became aware that “thoughts and prayers” was the worth of my students' lives, and my own, to the talking head$, elected policy maker$, their $upporter$, and a vocal minority which continue to this day to mask a real public health threat behind perceived constitutional rights.
